STICKING TO SELFCARE ROUTINES IS LIKE RECEIVING A LOVE LETTER FROM YOURSELF EVERY DAY

We often feel unable to manage our me-time because we think that selfcare either equals being away from our children which makes us feel bad for having this need. Or we are afraid that other people will judge us for allowing us to care for ouselves. We created a narrative amongst mothers that tells us that selfcare is selfish and if a mother spends time away from her children for whatever reason, she is a bad mom.

So we romantized the picture of the exhausted mom that puts herself last and sacrifices everything for her children. This mom is a good mom - that´s what we are told.

On the other hand however, this kind of mother is also judged. Because she is also a women that is letting herself go. She is not bouncing back fast enough to her pre pregnancy body, her house is a mess, she is pure chaos, she is emotional, she is being critized to either work too much or not at all. She is judged for being overstimulated, emotionally thin layered, angry and simply overwhelmed.

The good thing is: Either way, we are judged. That makes focusing to what WE really need & want actually easy!

The truth is: Listening to all those outside expectations & opinions, is what´s breaking mothers. Because as soon as we stop explaining and caring what other people think, we actually KNOW what´s best for us and our family. And this includes uninterrupted alone time for mothers, it includes a deep level of selfcare and not only maintanance, it includes checking in with yourself on a regular basis, it includes body movement, date nights, healthy nutrition, pleasure, sleep, beauty and whatever brings you happiness.

And the key to achieving all of this is a trustworthy support system. Because nobody can do it all. Especially not perfectly. And for sure not alone.

That´s the point where most moms want to leave the conversation: Building your own village seems like another overwhelming task on their to-do list.

But let me tell you: It´s not! Done right, it is beautiful and rewarding. It seems like a lot only because you don´t know where to start.

And that´s why I am here.

I became a single mom 6 postpartum, during the pandemic. And I went from a constantly sick and exhausted, working woman with no boundaries, a woman that never learned how to care for herself and believed wellness is only for the rich, to a calm and happy women that managed to build a circle of supportive moms around me, has strong boundaries and unnegociable self care rituals - on a budget.

A woman that stayed soft when life got tough, a mother that did not let her circumstances define her.

My son is everything to me and he actually is the reason, I take such good care of myself. Because I am his everything as well. I need to be healthy, happy and emotionally stable.

Because parenting is challenging. It´s so hard sometimes. And of course it hits different as a single mom. Because you can´t leave the situation. But I found that we all share the same struggles, single or not. And us mothers, we need to stick together, not judge each other but help each other out so we can recharge and be the best versions of ourselves.

Because we ARE the back up plan.

HOW DID I DO IT?

RAISING A CHILD ALONE, BUILDING A RELAXING SELFCARE ROUTINE, GLOWING UP & PURSUING MY DREAMS MORE THAN EVER?

Through my profound & unique selfcare strategy

Using my background as a classical violinist, I remembered the how to block out all distractions & focus on yourself even in the middle of a thunderstorm.

I started analysing myself & what makes me happy, tracking my menstrual cycle and adjusting my productivity and momming around it. I tought myself to set boundaries especially within my own family. Through trial and error, I figured out how to establish simple everyday wellness routines while taking care of a baby. I learned how to let go of perfection and clutter without losing my sense of style & esthetics.

I educated myself on the many facets of selfcare and learned that healing is not always pretty. And I forced myself into proactivity when it came to making mom friends and build a circle of family-like friends that happily support me & my child.

I figured out how to analyse my specific symptoms of chronic pain issues, how they were connected to constant survival mode and how to solve it. I learned to accept the fact that real friends are rare but precious. I tought myself to respond instead of react to criticism and unsolicited advice.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: I FIGURED OUT HOW TO OVERCOME MY LIMITING BELIEVES & MOM GUILT REGARDING SELFCARE
